Biography

  • Wild Cub is an indie rock band based in Nashville, Tennessee. The band formed in 2011 and has already gone on to perform at several notable festivals as well as producing charting hits.

The band’s principle songwriter Keegan DeWitt was living in Brooklyn, New York splitting his time between work and music before he formed the band, but he later moved to Nashville to focus on music full time. Before forming Wild Cub DeWitt had been composing music for films. He has consistently worked with film director Aaron Katz and has composed the music for films like “Cold Weather”, “Dance Party USA”, and “Quiet City”. While in Nashville DeWitt met multi-instrumentalist Jeremy Bullock and formed the band Wild Cub. DeWitt and Bullock later recruited drummer, Dabney Morris, bassist Harry West, and keyboardist Eric Wilson to be part of the band.

In 2013 the band released their debut album “Youth”, which was recorded in Bullock’s house. The album was in the vein of ‘80s synth pop music and conveyed sounds similar to something New Order might produce. The album was critically praised and well received for its catchy, infectious grooves. The album produced the hit single “Thunder Clatter”, which reached the No. 59 position on the UK Singles chart and the No. 17 position on the US Alternative Songs chart. The song was also featured in Bose advertising campaign. The album also featured other popular songs such as “Colour” and “Wild Light”.

The band has been well noted for their diverse range of styles. They have musical elements that take influence from artists like Prince, David Bowie, and Peter Gabriel. Part of the band’s style has also been compared to more modern artists such as M83 and Arcade Fire. The band’s hype have got them booked on well respected television shows like “Conan” and “Late Night with Jimmy Fallon”. They have also performed a cover song of Beyonce’s “Crazy in Love” for The A.V. Club’s A.V. Undercover series.

Wild Cub have also toured with many notable bands such as The Dismemberment Plan as well as played many respectable festivals such as South by Southwest, Bonnaroo, and CMJ. Apart from Wild Cub DeWitt has continued to compose music for films. He composed the score for the documentary short “Inocente”, which won an Academy Award. In 2014 DeWitt composed the scores for “Listen Up Philip” and “Land Ho!”
