Biography

  • Waters is a Norwegian alternative rock and pop-inflected indie band, formed in 2011 by Van Pierszalowski, hailing from Oslo, Norway.

Following the breakdown of his previous band Port O’Brien, vocalist and guitarist Van Pierszalowski moved to San Francisco with desire to start a new band with a new sound. With the help of guitarist Brain DaMert, bassist Greg Sellin, drummer Andrew Wales, and keyboard player Sara DaMert, Waters was born. The band’s debut album “Out in the Light” was produced in Dallas, Texas, by John Congleton, and released by TBD Records in 2011. The album’s hard-hitting poignancy subsequently earned features from New York City’s WFUV, NYLON Magazine’s Band Crush, and a number of online blogs.

Inspired by the ’90’s rock of the Pixies and Nirvana, Waters released the energetic single “Got To My Head” in early 2014, greatly increasing the online exposure of the band. Following the release, Waters issued “It All Might Be OK” featuring production from Grouplove’s Ryan Rabin. The band were subsequently named as one of 10 New Artists You Need to Know by the respectable periodical Rolling Stone Magazine, as well as earning features by KCRW’s Morning Becomes Electric, and Billboard Magazine. After the release of their follow-up single “I Feel Everything”, Waters toured alongside Tegan & Sara, Smallpools, and Magic Man. In April 2015 Waters released their sophomore album “What’s Real?” on Vagrant Records. The album showcases the band’s indie-pop aesthetic, maintains a steady, energetic presence, and highlights their synth experimentation.
