Biography

  • Tanlines are a band hailing from Brooklyn, New York, United States who formed in 2008. Since debuting in 2012 the duo have released two studio albums along with two EP’s and have become one of the most acclaimed indie rock acts to come out of Brooklyn in years.

The band is made up of percussionist Jesse Cohen and singer/guitarist Eric Emm, who came together after they met in 2008 when Emm produced a song for Cohen’s previous band Professor Murder. On the strength of one of the first tracks the band produced, “New Flowers”, the band signed to Young Turks for its single release. Within a year, they had made their live debut and were opening for Strokes frontman Julian Casablancas during his debut solo tour, while releasing remixes of everyone from Au Revoir Simone to Telepathe. March 2010 saw the release of the band’s debut EP “Settings”, and by the release of their 2012 debut album, they had already played gigs with everyone from The xx and Vampire Weekend, to Delorean and Rick Ross.

“Mixed Emotions was released in March 2012 on True Panther Sounds, and reached the top ten of both the Billboard Heatseekers chart and the Dance/Electronic albums chart. It was a critical hit as well, with their track “All Of Me” reaching number 43 of Rolling Stones list of the 50 best songs of 2012. Ever since then, the band have remained critical darlings with a live act that lives up to every column inch written about them. They may be a buzz band, but unlike many of their ilk, they’re worth every second of your time, and every shred of your attention. For that, they come highly recommended.
