Biography

  • Using various genre inspirations, The String Cheest Incident is an American progressive bluegrass band from Crested Butte and Telluride, Colorado formed in 1993.

    The String Cheese Incident is composed of Michael Kang (acoustic/electric mandolin, electric guitar, and violin), Michael Travis (drums and percussion), Bill Nershi (acoustic guitar,lap steel guitar, and electric slide guitar), Kyle Hollingsworth (piano, organ, Rhodes, and accordion), and Keith Moseley (bass guitar), and, in 2006, Jason Hann (auxiliary percussion). The band played a few shows before forming their own independent record label SCI Fidelity and started to record their first album. They released “Born On The Wrong Planet” in 1996. Less than a year later the band released “A String Cheese Incident,” a compilation of ten song live album.

    In Fall 2003 The String Cheese Incident released, “Untying the Not,” their fourth studio album and a continuation of electronic music and trance elements. The following summer they set out on tour followed a year later by the release of their fifth studio album, “One Step Closer.” In 2008 the members of The String Cheese Incident pursued solo careers and all members performed their solo work at the Rothbury Music Festival in Michigan, and a year later they reunited for the same festival. As the band's popularity grew, their live shows also great with their stage show. In Spring 2011, String Cheese Incident played a three-night run in Broomfield, Colorado, which they called the "Winter Carnival 2011." In 2014 The String Cheese Incident released their album, “A Song In My Head,” the first album released since 2009.
