Biography

  • Sixx:A.M. is a hard rock band fronted by Motley Crue bassist Nikki Sixx. It’s remaining lineup is comprised of lead guitarist DJ Ashba and vocalist James Michael. Their sound is structured on melodic glam metal and is seasoned with influences of overtly theatrical rock stars like Marilyn Manson and Dio.

The conception of the group took place in 2006 in Los Angeles, California, US, stemming largely from Sixx’s autobiography “The Heroin Diaries: A Year in the Life of a Shattered Rock Star”. Their first release came out in 2007 and was entitled “The Heroin Diaries Soundtrack”. It was a strong start for the band, housing one of their most recognized tracks, “Life is Beautiful”. The single shot to No. 2 on the Hot Mainstream Rock Tracks chart and No. 26 on the Billboard Rock Singles chart.

During the making of their studio debut the band had no drummer; however, the vacancy was filled as singer James Michael programmed rhythmic patterns for all the tracks. However once the band started performing live (their first gig being at the Crash Mansion) they brought in drummer Glen Sobel, formerly of the group Beautiful Creatures. Their next big concert was opening for Korn, which took place on 25 October 2007.

Though the band had planned to start a tour of their own in the Spring of 2008 they had to delay it, but later rescheduled their dates, aligning them with Motley Crue’s Crue Fest summer tour.

Following the group’s tour there were rumors surfacing that the band had begun writing material for a new album. This was confirmed in 2009 and by early 2010 the band reported that they had recorded at least two albums worth of music.

Their 2nd studio album “This Is Gonna Hurt” was issued on 3 May 2011 and accompanied the release of Sixx’s 2nd book. This was proceeded a couple months latter by a 7 track EP appropriately titled “7”. Their 3rd studio album was released on 7 October 2014 and contained the single “Gotta Get It Right” as well as a cover of the Car’s classic hit “Drive”.
