Jack Ü is the high-profile collaborative excursion of DJ and producer Diplo and the electronic dance music artist Skrillex, hailing from Los Angeles, California, U.S.
Prior to joining forces under the moniker Jack Ü, Diplo and Skrillex had collaborated on a number of occasions including the Diplo side-project Major Lazer. Having met one another in Los Angeles, the two soon discovered a mutual appreciation for electronic music, and began working together. In 2013 Diplo announced that Jack Ü were set to play his Mad Decent Black Party in San Diego, leading a host of observers to question the identity of the still unknown pseudonym. It was soon all revealed however, and the duo made their debut at the Mad Decent Block Party on September 15, 2013. The pair subsequently performed at the 2014 Ultra Music Festival which saw Jack Ü introduce a host of musical genres from Skrillex’s solo offerings to old school hip-hop, dubstep and trap.
In September 2014 Jack Ü released their debut single “Take Ü There”. The single was recorded with Canadian pop singer Kiesza after Diplo and Skrillex saw the singer perform at a show is Spain. “Take Ü There” went on to peak at No. 63 on the UK Singles Chart and No. 16 on the UK Dance Chart. The pair subsequently played the electronic festival Burning Man, where Jack Ü played eight sets over the festival and premiered the track “To Ü”. Jack Ü’s debut full-length “Skrillex and Diplo Present Jack Ü” was issued in February 2015 peaking at No. 26 on the Billboard 200. The album earned a host of warm reviews and sold impressively well, peaking at No. 12 on the Australian Albums Chart and No. 26 on the Billboard 200. The single “Where Are Ü Now” featuring Justin Bieber arrived later in 2015 once again proving popular in Australia, along with the UK, Sweden, Norway and New Zealand.
