Christina Victoria Grimmie (born March 12th, 1994), is an American singer-songwriter from Marlton New Jersey, US, becoming an internet sensation before reaching third place on the US version of the talent competition, The Voice.
Grimmie started off posting YouTube videos of covers of popular songs at the age of 15, uploading her versions of tracks by the likes of Hannah Montana, Miley Cyrus and Nelly. Her cover of Nelly's "just a Dream," alongside fellow YouTuber, Sam Tsui, reached an incredible 115 million views, with her own channel reaching whopping 375 million views as of April 2013. Beating Rhianna, Nicki Minaj and Justin Bieber, she placed at number two of the top five 'MyYouTube' competition, beaten to the top spot by Selena Gomez. Gomez's stepfather, Brian Teefey, went on to become Grimmie's manager, after they met in May 2010.
in 2011, Grimmie released an EP, titled "Find Me," helping to spread her popularity. She also supported Selena Gomez at several performers as well as joining the DigTour and supporting Gomez, Allstar Weekend and the Jonas Brothers at the 'Concert of Hope.' The Ellen DeGeneres Show invited her to perform her cover version of Lil Wayne's "How To Love," attracting the attention of the rapper.
Having moved to Los Angeles, US, Grimmie signed to Creative Artists Agency and recorded her album, "With Love, which was released in 2013. The album reached number 101 on the US Billboard charts. Following this, she embarked on a North American tour, backing Selena Gomez, for her "Stars Dance Tour."
In 2014, she then competed on NBC's talent competition, The Voice, reaching third place, having chosen Adam Levine as her mentor. Following her success on the Voice, Grimmie moved to major record label, Island Records, having also being offered a place on Lil Wayne's label, Young Money Entertainment.
